Colombo – Sri Lanka Cricket on Sunday suspended a player and a groundsman who allegedly agreed to tamper with the pitch to alter the result of an upcoming Test against England, as police launched an investigation into the claims.The Sri Lankan board (SLC) said it had suspended the curator of the Galle International Stadium as well as a professional player, who were featured in an Al Jazeera documentary on corruption in cricket. The board also lodged a complaint with the local police, who launched a criminal investigation into the scandal exposed by the Doha-based television network.

ONE = DAILY NEWS Item: “Sports Minister directs SLC to take prompt action on ‘pitch fixing’, 28 May 2018

Sports Minister Faiszer Mustapha has in a letter addressed to the secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket has directed the national body for the sport to promptly initiate an independent investigation into the alleged incidents of ‘pitch fixing’ at Galle International Stadium as exposed by TV channel Al Jazeera yesterday and to impose strict punishment on those who are found guilty of such offence.

Sri Lanka’s cricket board will not replace allrounder Dhananjaya de Silva who withdrew from a tour of the West Indies following the murder of his father, officials said Friday.Ranjan de Silva, a local politician, was shot dead near Colombo late Thursday, hours be fore the team was due to leave for the three-match Test series in the West Indies.

A THOUGHT from The Editor Cricketique … informed by some details for Morris and Mendis in ESPNcricinfo … which details Al-Jazeera does not seem to have checked because they say that Mendis is from Galle …. We now need a snap of the other alleged plotter Tharanga Indika [whom I believe is an old Aloysian who does have close links with Jayananda Warnaweera … BUT was not a curator if if the BCCSL info in ESPNcricinfo is correct]

Pitch Doctoring at Galle? Al-Jazeera Allegations –Three Reports

Sri Lanka Cricket will cooperate fully with the ICC in its investigations into allegations of pitch-fixing in two Test matches in the past, and potentially one later this year against England.

The board’s response came after TV news channel Al Jazeera claimed that a person involved in preparing the pitches in Galle for the Tests against India in 2017 and Australia in 2016 had tailored the surfaces according to instructions from a person involved in betting. The report also alleged that the Galle pitch for the Test against England later this year would also be made to order for betting.

Win – 2 points
No Result – 1 point
Tied – 1 point*** Tied (where it was not possible to complete a Super Over at the end of play or where the Super Over itself is tied)

League stage

*** If points are equal, the team with the most wins will be placed in the higher position.
*** If there are teams with equal points and equal wins, the team with the higher net run rate will be placed in the higher position.
*** If still equal, then the team with the higher number of wickets taken per fair balls bowled in the matches played in which results were achieved will be placed in the higher position.
*** If still equal then the team position will be determined by drawing lots.

Play-off matches

If any of the Final, the Eliminator, Qualifier 1 or Qualifier 2 matches are tied, or there is no result, the following shall apply…

*** Teams shall compete in a Super Over to determine the winner.
*** If conditions do not permit a Super Over within the time available or if the Super Over is tied, then the team which, at the end of the relevant regular Season, finished in the higher position in the League table will be deemed the winner of the relevant play-off match.
