Why the Indian Under 19 Team was A Step Ahead of All Other Teams

February 6, 2018

Shashank Kishore in ESPNcricinfo, … http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/22327011/india-prep-far-ahead-rest

Preparation is the key: India were the example for other teams to follow. Between the end of the 2016 Under-19 World Cup and the start of this one, India played four major series – home and away against England, and two Asia Cups in Colombo and Kuala Lumpur. And they had the domestic Under-19 inter-state tournament and the Challenger Trophy, which served as a final selection call for a number of players.

India Under-19 217 for 2 (Kalra 101*, Desai 47*, Gill 31) beat Australia Under-19 216 all out (Merlo 76, Uppal 34, Anukul 2-32, Shiva Singh 2-36) by eight wickets

India sauntered to a record fourth Under-19 World Cup title in front of a partisan crowd of 4000 odd at Bay Oval, to finish an unbeaten campaign that had begun against Australia at the same venue three weeks ago. The margin of victory then was 100 runs, and it was comprehensive in the grand final as well – eight wickets.

Under 19 Cricketing Stars in the Past who made the World Stage

January 29, 2018

Nishi Narayanan in The Cricket Monthly

Age-group cricket is an established path to the senior game, with performances here occasionally getting more attention than those on the first-class circuit. Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Sarfraz Ahmed, Hashim Amla, Michael Clarke, Cameron White and Denesh Ramdin are some of those who shone in junior cricket and went on to captain their countries in top-level cricket.

Terrorist Tragedy Back Home. Cricketing Massacre of Kiwis in their Home — Afghanistan U19 Cricket

January 26, 2018

Shashank Kishore in ESPNcricinfo, 26 January 2018

Naveen-ul-Haq, the Afghanistan Under-19 captain, has dedicated the team’s maiden entry into the World Cup semi-finals to the victims of the attacks that have rocked Jalalabad and Kabul over the last two days. The entire team wore black armbands to mourn those who lost their lives during the quarter-final against hosts New Zealand in Christchurch on Thursday.

The targets of the attacks were the UNICEF’s Save the Children office in Jalalabad on Wednesday and the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul on Thursday. “It was very sad for us to hear of the attacks on children in Jalalabad and at the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul,” Naveen said. “We wore black armbands to show our support [for the grieving families and friends of the victims].”

Soon after the game, Pope’s parents walked towards the dressing room to comfort their disconsolate son, who was in tears. Pope admitted to being disappointed then.
